What exactly is an ovarian cyst?




Females have two ovaries. In one or both of these, fluid-filled bags are formed. They are called ovarian cysts. It is believed that the cyst develops at least once in a woman's life.


Types of Ovarian Cysts: -


1. Folical Cyst or Follicular Cyst
2.Corpus luteum cysts

2.Cystadenomas
3.Endometriomas
4.Polycystic overy syndrome


Ovarian Cancer: -
      Ovarian cancer occurs when the fallopian tubes are destroyed and small lumps begin to form. This is understood when the cyst spreads to the pelvis and abdomen. The cancer usually occurs after the age of 40 or after menopause.


Types of Ovarian Cancer: -

1.Epithelial Tumers :-

It forms tissue outside both ovaries. It is the most common type of cancer. It is found in 85 to 90 percent of women.

2.Germ cell Tumers :-
It is a rare type of cancer that starts in the cells that make eggs.

3.Primary peritoneal carcinoma :-
It is similar to epithelial tumor, but is not affected by the removal of the ovary.

 Symptoms of Ovarian Cyst and Ovarian Cancer: -

    When the cyst is small, the symptoms are not understood but as it gets bigger, many symptoms appear. The symptoms of both cyst and cancer are almost identical as follows: -


1. Swelling in the abdomen
2. Vaginal pain (before or after menstruation)
3. Pain in the lower back
4. Discomfort, vomiting and fever
5. Feeling of heaviness in the abdomen
6. Indigestion
7. Fatigue
8. Irregular menstruation
9. Bile
10. Hair loss
11. Weight gain
12. Weakness
13. Frequent urination
14. Rapid breathing

Reasons: -
1. Irregular menstruation
2. The presence of an already ovarian cyst
3. Infertility
4. Related issues of hormones
5. Vaginal infection
6. Increased weight


Does ovarian cyst cause ovarian cancer?

What percentage of ovarian cysts are cancerous?

Ovarian cysts are usually not harmful. They also die on their own. Cysts can or do not cause ovarian cancer. Often the cyst does not take the form of cancer but in some cases it is possible.

Since the symptoms of cyst and cancer are the same, it is a bit difficult to understand, but it can be understood after some tests and examinations. The type of test depends on the size and structure of the cyst.



The Ovarian Cyst test is performed with the following medical equipment

1. CT Scan
2. MRI
3. Ultrasound

1. CA-125 blood test
2. Harmonal level test
3. Pregnancy test
4. Colonoscopy
5. Abdominal fluid aspiration
6. Biopsy
7. Transvaginal ultrasound

Types of surgeries used to remove ovarian cysts: -

1. Laproscopy: -
     In this, small cysts are removed with the help of binoculars.

2. Laprotomy: -
   This involves the removal of a large cyst by making a small incision in the abdomen using open surgery.


From whom should the ovarian cyst treatment be taken: -

 In case of ovarian cysts, it is always advisable to seek treatment from an experienced gynecologist and obstetrician.
Note- If the above symptoms are found, it is not necessarily an ovarian cyst, but if any symptoms are found, it should be checked without ignoring it.
